RHP Chad Green (32), a teammate of Ryu Hyun-jin (36-Toronto Blue Jays), was injured in a rehab game, delaying his return.
메이저사이트 Green pitched in the bottom of the fifth inning of a game against the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox (Boston Red Sox affiliate) at Polar Park in Worcester, Massachusetts, on April 9 (ET).
Here’s how the injury happened. With two outs, Green gave up a bunt single to Ryan Fitzgerald. When Fitzgerald tried to steal second base on the next pitch, catcher Tyler Heinemann threw to second base to make the catch, and the throw hit Green squarely in the back of the head.
Luckily, Green didn’t go down. However, he continued to touch the back of his head and complained of pain. A normal conversation with the trainer, who came out to check on him, revealed that it wasn’t a serious injury. However, since the hit was to the head, he was taken off the mound as a precaution.
According to MLB.com, Toronto manager John Schneider said that “Green entered the concussion protocol”.
A player suspected of suffering a concussion must rest for a week and pass tests before returning to the mound, regardless of the player’s doctor.
Green has appeared in 272 games over seven seasons with the New York Yankees since 2016, going 33-22 with a 3.17 ERA in 53 appearances and 11 saves.
After undergoing elbow ligament reconstruction surgery last June, Green signed a two-year deal with Toronto in January. After a successful rehabilitation, Greene threw his final live game today, but the freak injury has delayed his return to the big leagues.
