The first risk of not paying motor vehicle tax is getting a fine. The fine is calculated based on year and month.
If you are late in paying taxes by even one day, then the delay is calculated as one month.
The amount of the fine can vary according to the time you are late in paying your tax. However, in general, according to Minister of Finance Regulation no.16 of 2017, the calculation is as follows
– One day to two months late: PKB x 25% + SWDKLLJ
– Two months to six months late: PKB x 50% + SWDKLLJ
– Six months to nine months late: PKB x 75% x SWDKLLJ
– Late more than nine months: PKB x 100% + SWDKLLJ
Please note that PKB rates can vary in each province. Then, SWDKLLJ is a mandatory contribution to the traffic accident fund of IDR 143,000.
2. Vehicle selling prices fall
Another risk is the decline in the selling price of the vehicle when you want to sell it.This is because buyers will bid the lowest possible price on the grounds that additional costs are needed to pay off tax arrears.
Of course, this will be detrimental to you when you want to sell your vehicle quickly at a reasonable price.
3. Ticketed
The next risk is getting a police ticket.Even if you bring your driver’s license and STNK during a police raid, you can still get a ticket because it complies with the Road Traffic and Transportation Law.
Article 70 paragraph 2 of the law stipulates that STNK and number plates need to be validated every year.Special number plates are valid for five years.
This is also related to the legal conditions for a STNK to be able to operate, namely validation every year and paying taxes is one proof.
4. Registration number is deleted
According to Law no.20 Article 74 Paragraph 2 of 2009, explains that deregistration and identification of motorized vehicles can be done because they do not carry out taxes.
In particular, when the owner does not re-register at least two years after the Motor Vehicle Registration Certificate has expired.
In other words, your vehicle registration number can be erased if you are late in paying car tax up to two years after the five-year STNK validity period expires.
As a result, the vehicle cannot be re-registered so it becomes fraudulent forever. If it is considered fake, then you will have difficulty selling it again, according to the official Suzuki Indonesia website.
