“Currently the VinFast factory in Subang employs around 900 workers, and the majority are local people from Subang and the surrounding area,” said VinFast Indonesia CEO Kariyanto Hardjosoemarto.
As investments are fully absorbed and factories become fully operational with more electric vehicle production lines, the workforce is projected to increase significantly.
Kariyanto added, in full operational condition, the VinFast Subang factory has the potential to absorb around 5,000 to 15 thousand workers from the Subang area and surrounding areas.
“In the future, as investment is fully absorbed and the factory operates fully with additional production lines and VinFast electric vehicle models, the number of workers has the potential to increase to around 5,000 to 15,000 people,” he said.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that VinFast’s investment was in line with the government’s agenda in encouraging the acceleration of the energy transition and development of the national electric vehicle industry.
“As the name suggests, VinFast, the construction of this factory is very fast and I don’t think all manufacturers can do it,” said Airlangga at the inauguration of the VinFast factory in Subang, West Java, Monday (15/12/2025).
Airlangga hopes that VinFast can continue to increase the use of local components and resources in developing its factories.
“We hope that VinFast will continue to improve local components by collaborating with existing companies,” he continued.
From the local government side, Subang Regent Reynaldy Putra Andita BR emphasized the importance of absorbing local workers as a direct impact of VinFast investment.
“With VinFast, I hope it can provide many benefits to the people of Subang Regency, both in terms of the economy and employment,” said Reynaldy.
He said the regional government had coordinated so that the majority of workers came from the local community.
“Regarding labor absorption, we have coordinated that 70 percent will come from the Subang community. The rest will be workers with certain specifications that are needed by the industry,” he explained.
The Subang Regency Government will also strengthen synergy with universities and educational institutions in the region to prepare human resources that suit the needs of the electric vehicle industry.
