An electric car assembly factory owned by a manufacturer from Vietnam,
VinFast
, located in Subang, West Java, has officially started producing electric vehicles.
The facility, which was built over 17 months since the groundbreaking in July 2024, is now operational, although not yet fully completed, with initial production focused on the VF3 model.
The VinFast factory in Subang stands on an area of ​​around 171 hectares and is the production base for VinFast electric vehicles for the Indonesian market.In the initial operational stages, this facility is not yet 100 percent operational, but is already capable of carrying out the vehicle assembly process in stages.

Currently, the factory’s production capacity reaches around 10 cars per working hour.VinFast targets a gradual increase in capacity, as facilities are improved and additional production lines for other vehicle models are ready.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the inauguration of the VinFast factory in Subang shows a serious investment commitment in the national electric vehicle sector.
“Indonesia must learn from Vinfast, their strategy in Indonesia is extraordinary. I have not seen any electric car manufacturer that has built a good electric car ecosystem. 1,000 charging stations,” said Airlangga at the inauguration of the VinFast factory in Subang, West Java, Monday (15/12).
Airlangga said this factory has an initial production capacity of up to 50,000 units per year.The government also encourages VinFast to increase the use of local components through collaboration with domestic industry.
“But until now, we are grateful for the establishment of this factory. Vinfast is a manufacturer with the right commitment, and is fast in completing factory construction,” said Airlangga.
In terms of investment, the construction value of the VinFast factory in Subang reaches around IDR 3.2 trillion to IDR 3.5 trillion.In the initial stages, this facility absorbed around 1,700 workers, some of whom had undergone training, including sending managerial level workers to Vietnam several months before the factory operated.
Meanwhile, CEO of VinFast Asia, Pham Sanh Cou, emphasized that the factory in Indonesia is not just a production facility, but is part of the company’s long-term commitment.”Our mission in building the factory: to bring it closer to the community, and build a future for sustainable energy,” he emphasized.
Apart from producing the VF3 model as an initial stage, VinFast opens up opportunities to add production lines to other models such as the VF5, VF6, VF7 and MPV models which will be developed for the Indonesian electric vehicle market, depending on future developments in market demand.
This factory was also prepared as part of a strategy to strengthen the electric vehicle ecosystem, including human resource development and increasing the level of production localization.
In the future, VinFast targets the Subang factory’s production capacity to reach 50 thousand units per year, with the potential for further expansion as the national electric vehicle market grows.
The inauguration of this factory marks Indonesia’s move to not only act as a market, but also as a production base in the regional electric vehicle industry.
