Toyota Australia has decided on one of their models,
Fortuner
, will stop being sold in mid-2026. It seems that Toyota has had enough of seeing Fortuner sales consistently at the bottom for more than a decade.
This also ensures that consumers in Australia will not get a refreshed Fortuner model like in other countries which is planned to arrive next year.

“The Fortuner has been a good product for us for many years and has found a relatively small base of enthusiastic consumers,” said Sean Hanley, vice president of sales and marketing at Toyota Australia.

“But with shifting consumer preferences in Australia, we made the decision not to continue the Fortuner,” he said.

Currently, consumers in Australia are said to have switched to other models.
“For the most part, they’re moving to a Hilux, or moving to a (Land Cruiser) Prado or Land Cruiser 300 Series SUV,” Hanley said.
Apart from the Fortuner, Toyota currently sells many SUVs in Australia, namely the Yaris Cross, C-HR, Corolla Cross, RAV4, Kluger, Land Cruiser Prado, Land Cruiser 300 and bZ4X.
The Fortuner is less competitive with other Toyota SUV models, including the Land Cruiser Prado, which is more expensive.
Fortuner sales this year were only 2,928 units in Australia, while Prado was 23,298 units, Ford Everest 21,915 units and Isuzu MU-X 12,499 units.
Even when compared with a model in the same class, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, which sold 5,014 units, the Fortuner also didn’t move.
Fortuner’s best sales occurred in 2022, namely 4,614 units.Even so, the numbers are still inferior to Prado.
The Fortuner was first sold in Australia in 2015. Its position was to be a diesel SUV alternative to the Kluger, which at that time was only sold with a petrol engine.
Currently the Fortuner is sold from AU$58,000 (around Rp. 634 million, exchange rate Rp. 10,929) to the most expensive AU$71,000 (Rp. 776 million). As an illustration, the Land Cruiser Prado costs AU$77,000-106,000 (Rp. 841.5 million-Rp. 1.1 billion).
Average Fortuner sales from 2016 to 2024 are only 3,481 units.Even though the volume doesn’t help Toyota much in Australia, Hanley said the Fortuner is not a failed product.
“Every product we launch on the market has its own role. Fortuner has a role that we know will never be Toyota’s best-selling product,” said Hanley.
“(Fortuner) was successful in what we wanted, but with the expansion of the Hilux range and the rationalization of the product offering, this is just an ordinary business case for us,” he said again.
