Maruti Suzuki managed to get a 5 star rating for the model
eVitara
in the safety assessment of the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (Bharat NCAP) on Tuesday (2/12).The success of passing this stringent safety test places the eVitara as India’s first electric SUV to be awarded the highest rating.
Indian Minister of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) Shri Nitin Gadkari praised Maruti Suzuki for the award received.
“Congratulations to Maruti Suzuki 5 stars Bharat NCAP in the aspect of adult and child passenger protection for their eVitara model. I am very happy that Maruti Suzuki has shown real leadership by providing seven airbags as standard in all eVitara variants,” he said, as quoted by marutisuzuki.com.

Bharat NCAP is MoRTH’s official car safety assessment that has been in existence since August 2023. This assessment is the 10th NCAP in the world which includes a number of crash tests, such as offset front impact, side impact and rear impact tests.

Safety features including airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and seat belt reminder are crucial points in the Bharat NCAP assessment.In this case, the eVitara is developed on the latest HEARTECT-e platform specifically for electric vehicles and is equipped with seven airbags, including a driver’s knee airbag.
Thanks to that platform and safety features, the eVitara scored 31.49 out of 32.00 in the adult occupant protection test and a score of 43.00 out of 49.00 in the child occupant protection test.
President Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki Hisashi Takeuchi said this achievement was the initial milestone in the eVitara export plan to 100 countries around the world.
“Achieving a 5 star Bharat NCAP rating for eVitara, our first Battery Electric vehicle, is a moment of immense pride for the entire Maruti Suzuki team,” he said.
“Using Bharat NCAP’s 5-star rating, we will export eVitara to more than 100 countries in the world. Bharat NCAP’s globally recognized stringent vehicle test protocols have become an incentive for consumers to make informed decisions,” he concluded.
