But the Sultan’s luxury does not stop with cars.He lives in the Nurul Iman Palace, the largest ‘paradise’ in the world, with an area of 2.1 million square feet (around 195 thousand square meters).
This palace has 1,788 rooms, 257 bathrooms and five swimming pools, lit by 51 thousand lamps, 564 chandeliers, and decorated with 22 carat gold in various corners.
The Sultan also owns a luxuriously modified private Boeing 747 aircraft, complete with crystal chandeliers, gold-plated fixtures, a private bedroom and a gold washbasin.Suitably nicknamed the flying palace.
What if he wants to shave his head?He flew his regular barber from London to Brunei using his private jet.
He once celebrated his 50th birthday, by spending US $ 17 million to bring Michael Jackson exclusively to a private concert.
Around 3 thousand guests were invited to the party which also featured a polo tournament with King Charles (then Prince Charles).The total cost of the magnificent party is estimated at US$ 27 million.
This wealth was obtained by the Sultan of Brunei through his country’s petroleum reserves, which places Brunei as one of the richest countries in the world.
Even in the mid-1980s, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah was named the richest person in the world, beating Bill Gates.Last year, the Sultan’s wealth was estimated at US$30 billion.
