This was initiated by the Garut Resort Police through a patrol team from the Traffic Unit. For them, this is also a step to anticipate traffic accidents in Garut Regency, West Java.

Furthermore, the patrol team also met directly with a number of residents to advise them to obey traffic regulations, including not smoking while driving to maintain collective safety.
Drivers who smoke, he said, are a legal violation that can be subject to criminal sanctions in accordance with the Law on Road Traffic and Transportation, namely imprisonment for a maximum of three months or a maximum fine of IDR 750 thousand.
“This action violates the law and can be subject to criminal sanctions in the form of imprisonment for a maximum of three months or a maximum fine of IDR 750,000,” he said.
He then explained the dangers of smoking while driving, starting from disrupting concentration, reducing vehicle control and increasing the risk of accidents due to the visual disturbance of smoke or embers from cigarettes.
Another danger, he said, is disturbing other road users, and has the potential to cause a fire if cigarette embers come into contact with flammable materials inside or outside the vehicle.
“Cigarette smoke can interfere with the view of drivers and other motorists, especially in the car cabin, as well as the potential for fire because falling embers or cigarette ash can catch flammable materials,” he said.
He added that these patrols will continue to be carried out intensively so that people obey traffic regulations.
“Let’s together maintain order and traffic safety,” said Aang.
