The reunion of the San Diego Padres’ Korean big league duo of Ha-Sung Kim and Ji-Man Choi is coming soon. That’s because Choi, who has been sidelined with a left rib injury, 메이저놀이터 has begun a rehab assignment.
Choi, who is playing for the San Diego affiliate Triple-A El Paso Chihuahuas, recorded a multi-hit game (3-for-2) and drew a walk against the Texas Rangers’ Triple-A Round Rock Express at Southwest University Park in El Paso, Texas, on June 6 (KST).
Choi, batting third, singled straight to second base in the first inning, then doubled in his second at-bat in the third. After drawing a walk in the fourth, Choi completed her multi-hit performance with a single to left in the fifth.
Choi was traded to Pittsburgh from Tampa Bay at the end of last year. He missed nearly three months with a sprained left Achilles tendon before returning in July. Since his return in July, Choi has been hitting for power, batting 26-for-41 (8-for-11) with four home runs, nine RBIs, and a .929 OPS.
The Padres had their eye on Choi and acquired him ahead of the trade deadline to add production at the designated hitter spot. He was paired with Kim Ha-seong.
However, since arriving in San Diego, Choi hasn’t shown the kind of power the team was hoping for. He has appeared in seven games since the trade, but has a poor record of 11 at-bats with no hits, five walks, and three runs scored. He hasn’t added a hit since the trade, let alone a long ball. In 30 games with Pittsburgh and San Diego this season, he is 1-for-15 (84 RBI) with six home runs, 11 RBI and a .679 OPS.
