which is one of the government’s new projects, is targeted to start production in 2027 and is expected to be sold at affordable prices, which was mentioned by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs
Airlangga Hartarto
at least under IDR 300 million.
This price benchmark refers to vehicles that are popular among the people of the country, namely affordable and environmentally friendly cars (Low Cost Green Car/LCGC) which are currently sold starting from IDR 100 million, then citycars, compact five-passenger SUVs, Low MPVs, and Low SUVs, most of which cost under IDR 300 million.
Another example is battery-based electric cars. For example, a newcomer in the city car type, namely the BYD Atto 1, is sold starting at IDR 199 million, while the electric five-passenger SUV Jaecoo J5 EV is priced at IDR 250 million.

According to Airlangga, this condition is a new challenge because the products produced will not only have to be competitive in terms of technology, but also be affordable for the public.
“So in the future we are pushing for national cars, we have checked in the field from Gaikindo, indeed now the largest market share is cars under IDR 300 million,” he said on the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s YouTube account, quoted Thursday (4/12).

“So this is also being pushed by the government so that affordability becomes a challenge,” said Airlangga again.
This statement is different from Indonesian Military Technology (TMI), a local company which claims to be developing a national electric car according to President Prabowo Subianto’s direction.TMI targets that their national cars will be sold for under IDR 500 million.
Airlangga said the president encouraged this project to run.Prabowo even asked for a special budget related to his ambition.
Previously, the Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang, revealed that the Indonesian national car concept was ready and was planned to be produced starting in 2027. This project collaborated with state-owned company Pindad and was declared ready in terms of concept, technology, financing and cross-sector support.
“We are optimistic that the concept discussed by Pindad for the national car project is a good path,” said Agus in a written statement quoted on Friday (14/11).
He said that his party continues to accelerate preparations for the national car project as one of the strategic agendas to strengthen the independence of the Indonesian automotive industry.
Then, technical and conceptual discussions on National Mob have also taken place between the Ministry of Industry and Pindad.Agus said this was carried out in accordance with President Prabowo Subianto’s direction so that Indonesia could immediately have a domestically produced national mob.
