Head of Traffic Corps
National Police
Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho instructed the temporary suspension of all enforcement of traffic violations in disaster-affected areas. This order applies in Sumatra, especially Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra.
The main focus of officers in the field will be directed at humanitarian services and opening aid routes. This policy was taken after flash floods and landslides damaged several vital roads, disrupting logistics flows.
Agus then asked all personnel to transfer routine task patterns based on discretionary authority in Article 18 of Law Number 2 of 2002 and Article 260 of Law Number 22 of 2009.

This instruction provides clear direction to all Traffic Directorates and Traffic Heads in the disaster area to stop traffic related actions. All personnel were directed to open access, evacuate residents and escort heavy equipment to the landslide point.Escorts are carried out by relays so that mobility is not interrupted.
Traffic police are also asked to act as pathfinders, namely opening routes for aid vehicles. They are obliged to map alternative routes up to the village level.
Apart from that, Green Wave was implemented, namely full priority for ambulances, basic food trucks and vehicles transporting aid.
Agus emphasized that Traffic Police assets must become a lifeline for residents.Official cars such as double cabins and trucks were then used for evacuation, especially for vulnerable groups. These vehicles are also used to send logistics to isolated areas.
The nearest police posts will be operated as Disaster Response Traffic Police Posts. This facility provides drinking water, a place to rest, and is an information center for residents and volunteers.
The Traffic Directorate is also required to report road conditions every three hours to the NTMC Korlantas Polri. This information is distributed to the media and navigation platforms so that people can avoid vulnerable routes.
“Every personnel is expected to show empathy and professionalism in carrying out their role as front guard during a disaster,” concluded Agus.
