Ohtani takes batting practice…”I’ll be back in two days”

Shohei Ohtani’s return to the Los Angeles Angels appears to be imminent. The manager believes Ohtani will be back within two days.

메이저놀이터Ohtani left the game against the Baltimore Orioles on Sept. 5 with a right side strain and was out of the starting lineup for four consecutive games until Sept. 8 against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Ohtani was examined and found to have inflammation in his side, but it is mild. The Angels have not placed Ohtani on the disabled list and are checking his status daily.

The Angels received some good news. Ohtani took a workout at Angels Stadium on Aug. 8. He took swings in the batting cage and ran several drills on the field.

Angels manager Phil Nevin said, “We’ll see how he is tomorrow. He moved well and took some swings, but not enough to play today. He didn’t look comfortable taking full swings,” said Angels manager Philbin. “I think he’ll be back in two days.”

This year, Ohtani batted .304 with 44 home runs, 95 RBIs and a 1.066 OPS in 135 games as a hitter, and went 10-5 with a 3.14 ERA in 23 appearances as a pitcher.

After recently being diagnosed with elbow ligament damage, Ohtani is no longer throwing this season. Ohtani’s agent, Nez Valero, explained that Ohtani will most likely need surgery, but it may not be a second elbow ligament repair (Tommy John surgery).

If Ohtani returns early, it could reignite the batting title race. Ohtani is third in the American League in RBIs, five shy of the 100-RBI leader, Adolis Garcia (Texas Rangers). In the home run category, he leads the league with 44 home runs, nine ahead of second-place Luis Robert (Chicago White Sox).
