Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs
Airlangga Hartarto
Several times he has said that car prices in Indonesia are getting cheaper and cheaper, both conventional and electric models. In fact, he even said that the price of electric cars had moved to the level of IDR 150 million. So what cars are sold at that price?
Currently there is only oneĀ IDR 150 million electric car model, namely the Vinfast VF3.This price is obtained if the VF3 is purchased without a battery, you need to rent the battery by paying monthly, while the price tag for the VF3 using a battery is IDR 230 million.
This electric car is compact in size and can accommodate four people and in Indonesia competes directly with the Wuling Air EV and Seres E1.However, the Air EV and E1 are sold at prices above that.Wuling sells the Air EV starting from 184 million, while Seres sells the E1 starting from IDR 189 million.

Another electric car model that is relatively cheap, under IDR 200 million, is the BYD Atto 1 which starts from IDR 199 million.Apart from that, Changan sells Lumin with a tag of IDR 178 million.
Cheap electric cars will also become more popular in the future. There are already manufacturers who are committed to playing in this class, one of which is Mobil Anak Bangsa (MAB).

This company made by Moeldoko promises a compact electric car the size of the Air EV at a price of under IDR 150 million. This car is the result of collaboration between MAB and a manufacturer from China, Solarky Mobility Technologies (HK) Ltd.
Conventional car
Different from electric cars, conventional cars actually have more choices for models at this price, and are even available for under IDR 150 million.
For example, the Wuling Formo is priced at IDR 155 million, then DFSK’s pickup, namely the Super Cab, is sold at IDR 153.5 million.
For passenger cars, they are available from LCGC models such as the Daihatsu Sigra, whose three variants are sold for IDR 141.5 million, IDR 152.1 million and IDR 159.8 million. Then Ayla has a variant with a price range of IDR 138 million to IDR 157 million.
Airlangga warned
Airlangga previously claimed that car prices in Indonesia are getting cheaper, now even approaching the level of IDR 150 million. This phenomenon is interesting, but he projects it will create a domino effect, namely worse traffic jams in the capital.
Car prices, especially battery-based electric cars in Indonesia, have become more affordable after the government provided various fiscal incentives, including free import duties for completely built up (CBU) imports, which have been stated to not be continued after their validity period expires on 31 December 2025.
Then, based on Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) Number 12 of 2025, the government has provided a 10 percent DTP VAT incentive for completely knocked down (CKD) electric cars.
Then PPnBM DTP for imports of completely built up (CBU) and CKD electric cars is 15 percent.
“And that is with innovation and policy improvements carried out by cars now costing IDR 150 million,” said Airlangga in Jakarta, reported by CNBC Indonesia, Thursday (18/12).
Airlangga then warned that more and more people would be able to buy four-wheeled vehicles. That’s why, he estimates, vehicle congestion will often occur like in Jakarta.
“I am giving a warning that the more cheap cars there will be, the more traffic jams there will be in Jakarta. Well, this is the Governor’s homework, how to do it,” said Airlangga.
