spark plug
NGK, Niterra Mobility Indonesia, revealed the circulation of fake spark plugs in society. This practice is considered to not only damage the company’s image, but also cause financial losses projected to reach IDR 2 billion just through distribution via online stores.
Based on these findings, the company, together with a team of legal attorneys and the police, confiscated 11 thousand fake spark plugs from their brand from physical stores.Tens of thousands of spark plugs were then destroyed.
“There are 11 thousand
pieces
the spark plugs that we secured (from the shop
offline
), and then we will carry out smelting,” said NGK’s legal team, Ammar Singh Gill at the NGK factory in the Ciracas area, East Jakarta, Tuesday (16/12).

He said counterfeit products were not just a matter of violating the law, but posed a serious threat to NGK’s reputation.
“So we started with
screening
through
market place
, then in workshops.”And it’s not uncommon for us to find them in workshops that have high traffic,” said Ammar.
Ammar continued that the method of fake spark plug dealers is to give much cheaper selling prices for the best-selling products. For example, the best-selling NGK motorbike spark plugs are currently priced at IDR 20 thousand, but fake spark plugs can be sold starting from IDR 7 thousand.
He added that using fake spark plugs is dangerous and detrimental to users.
Ammar said fake spark plugs can cause engine damage, reduce vehicle performance and even endanger driver safety.
Now, in an effort to combat the circulation of fake spark plugs, NGK has also taken several actions, including educating consumers through digital and offline campaigns.
Then monitor the market regularly and open a complaint service regarding fake spark plug information.NGK also changes packaging periodically so that product authenticity is easily identified.
Others are controlling the sale of fake spark plugs circulating on e-commerce platforms and collaborating with the authorities in controlling the circulation of fake spark plugs.
“PT Niterra Mobility Indonesia hereby invites all consumers and distributor partners to jointly support these steps, in order to create an automotive market free from counterfeit products for the sake of consumer safety and trust,” said Ammar.
