‘New Korean Express’ born… Jang Hyun-seok signs $1.18 billion contract with Dodgers “to become a better player”

A new Korean express is born. Yongma High’s Jang Hyun-seok is going to the Dodgers.

Jang Hyun-seok’s management company, Ricoh Sports Agency, announced on the 9th that “pitcher Jang Hyun-seok of Masan Yongma High School has signed a contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers for a signing bonus of $900,000 (approximately 1.18 billion won).”

Jang Hyun-seok is a top high school prospect who throws a fastball in the mid-to-high 150 kilometres per hour, and is the first high school player to be selected for the Asian Games in Hangzhou.

The Dodgers are no stranger to Korean baseball fans. It’s where “Korean Superstar” Park Chan-ho’s career began, and several other Korean players, including Ryu Hyun-jin, have played for the Dodgers.

“I am honoured to join the prestigious Dodgers,” said Jang Hyun-seok, “and I will work hard to become a better player as they have chosen me.”

Meanwhile, Jang’s signing press conference will be held at the Seoul Dragon City Hotel on the 14th.
