General Chair of the Indonesian Electric Vehicle Industry Association (Periklindo) Moeldoko responded to the government’s decision to stop providing incentives for electric cars next year.According to him, there is no need to worry too much about this.
He believes that the automotive market, especially electric cars, is currently in a positive trend. This is reflected in the sales of electric cars which are creeping up from year to year.

Referring to data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), this year alone sales of battery-based electric cars reached 69,146 units as of October. This figure is higher than sales for the full year 2024 which stopped at 43,188 units.
Sales jumped rapidly in October 2025, as electric car sales reached 13,867 units, a significant increase from September’s 4,097 units.

“If you look at general car sales, there is indeed a decline, but in terms of the electric car trend, Periklindo sees an interesting phenomenon. Because it is increasing. A significant increase,” said Moeldoko when met at the Mobil Anak Bangsa (MAB) Jakarta office, Wednesday (10/12).
The government previously planned to stop providing incentives for purchasing electric cars, including for imports of completely built up (CBU) cars starting December 31 2025.
According to Moeldoko, the absence of incentives does not mean that EV sales will be depressed because prices are getting more expensive. He emphasized that the price of electric cars will naturally fall along with technological developments and industrial competition, so that they are affordable for all groups.
“I have said from the start that electric cars in the future will be cheaper than conventional cars, because the components used are limited or few. If competition in the world of batteries gets tougher, then the competition will be high and prices will fall,” he said.
“Moreover, Indonesia will produce batteries. If batteries as a component of 40 percent of EVs fall, then electric car (prices) will fall to the bottom,” said the former Chief of Staff to the President.
Moeldoko also said that the increasingly massive competition between electric vehicle manufacturers in Indonesia was actually an advantage for consumers.
“So there’s no need to worry, of course electric cars will be cheaper. Especially with extraordinary competition like now, people are actually enjoying their right to buy electric cars cheaply,” he said.
