(Mercy) Gorden Wagener has decided to leave the German automotive brand.Both parties have agreed that Wagener’s career at Mercy will end on January 31 2026.
This momentum marks the end of 30 years of Wagener’s contribution to creating various iconic car designs for Mercedes-Benz, such as the SLR McLaren, S-Class and AMG GT.

Mercedes-Benz Chairman Ola Källenius said Gorden Wagener had shaped the brand’s identity over the years with its visionary design philosophy.
“Over the years, he has made an important contribution to ensuring our innovative products are synonymous with a unique aesthetic throughout the world,” he said.

“His creativity and insight into the future of automotive design have continually enriched Mercedes-Benz,” he added.
Wagener first joined Mercedes-Benz in 1997. His career took off after the Mercy models he designed, such as the SLR McLaren, A-class and S-Class, gained popularity.
This achievement succeeded in leading him to become Head of Design in 2008. Ultimately, he was appointed as Mercy’s first Chief Design Officer when it was not even 10 years since his last position.
Wagener’s decision to leave Mercy was a personal wish which had also been agreed to by both parties.This important point marks a new journey for Mercy after Wagener’s work made it an iconic automotive brand in the world.
“I want to thank Gorden for his commitment, extraordinary work and lasting influence, and wish him the best for his future,” concluded Ola.
