If reviewed on an annual basis, Malaysian car sales for the 11 months of 2025 will amount to 720 thousand units, while Indonesia will only reach 710,084 units.
Conventional cars still contributed a lot to demand in Malaysia with 65,688 registrations, or accounting for 84.3 percent of all cars sold in November.

It will be difficult for Indonesian car sales to increase in 2025, with the main reason being the weak purchasing power of the Indonesian people.
On the other hand, this result hit Indonesia hard, considering that Malaysia has a much smaller population than Indonesia.Currently Indonesia has a population of 280 million people, while Malaysia only has 39 million people.
Before Gaikindo revised its target, Bob Azam, Vice President of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN), once stated that the Indonesian automotive market must be able to reach at least 800 thousand units this year in order to remain optimistic about being above Malaysia.
If total car sales fall below this figure, Indonesia’s reputation as the largest market in ASEAN will be affected.
“Yes, we hope to get 800 thousand units, so that we are above Malaysia, if it is less than 800 thousand units it is dangerous. So image is important,” said Bob last weekend at Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week (GJAW) 2025, ICE BSD Tangerang recently.
