The police are proposing restrictions on the operation of three-axle vehicles such as large trucks during the Christmas and New Year holidays in 2025.
Head of Traffic Corps
National Police Agus Suryonugroho said this proposal was to reduce the number of traffic accidents and reflect on experiences during the 2025 ketupat operation.
“If we may suggest, it has been arranged, Sir. This is there

“So on certain dates you can travel, on certain dates you cannot travel either on toll roads or arterials,” said Agus, quoting the official Korlantas Polri website, Friday (28/11).

When this policy was implemented in Operation Ketupat, he said there was a decrease in the rate of accidents and victim fatalities.
“The experience of the ketupat operation, this is the first time during operation that the 3rd axis was prohibited on toll roads and arteries, what happened? Traffic accidents fell by 33 percent, sir, the fatality of accident victims fell by 53 percent and that was the first time,” he said.

He admitted that he would continue to coordinate with the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) to draft a policy regarding the ban on three-axle trucks during the Christmas holidays.Apart from that, he said this policy was carried out without ignoring economic and social aspects.
“But the Ministry of Transportation has already made a plan for this to be carried out using a windows system because there are several aspects that must be considered. But during the coordination meeting, we might voice that, so that this humanitarian operation really prioritizes the safety of people’s lives,” said Agus.
On this occasion, Korlantas was also alert to the potential for traffic jams during the Christmas and New Year holidays. He projects that there will be 2.9 million vehicles roaming around during that period.
“We report the projected traffic volume out of Nataru, the projection is 2,915,318 vehicles. According to the Nataru prediction, there is only an increase of 12.2 percent compared to normal. An increase of 0.9 percent from 2024,” said Agus.
Even so, he cannot confirm whether his party will implement traffic engineering such as contra flow to one way.
According to him, the provisions for implementing engineering can be carried out based on the realities that occur in the field.
“For (Operation) Ketupat, it could reach 90 percent. This means that the predicted total traffic counting on toll roads, on arterial roads is like VN+2 percent. So we can still control whether we will apply contra flow or one way, of course later the command center at KM 29 will assess the condition,” he said.
