‘MLB.com’ highlighted Kevin Shim’s participation in the Draft Combine in an article on March 23 (KST).
Kevin recorded 15 hard-hit balls and 16 hits in batting practice on Day 1 of the Draft Combine at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, on July 21. Thirteen of his hits were for extra bases. Four of his balls traveled more than 400 feet.
He told MLB.com, “My dad has been with me from the time I was a youth player all the way through college. I’ve been able to learn from his knowledge and experience and train with him on and off the field. I’m very lucky to have been blessed with his talent.”
“My dad has been a great hitter throughout his career. I practiced hitting with him nonstop. I tried to keep my swing simple and find what works for me and I think it shows on the field,” he said, adding that he learned a lot from his father’s swing philosophy.
Watching his son Kevin take batting practice, Shim said in the same interview, “Every moment with him is like looking at an old photo.”
Shim, who immigrated to the United States with his family in 2009, said he didn’t want his children to give up on both baseball and academics, adding that Kevin “will learn more on and off the field as a person” and that growing as a person will help him in his career.
Kevin Sim batted .295 with 25 home runs and 97 RBIs over the past two seasons at the University of San Diego. He is ranked as the No. 191 draft prospect by MLB.com.
