Indonesian Automotive Vehicle Industry Association (
Gaikindo
) recognize economic pressure is overshadowing the national automotive industry.Sales that have not encouraged the association to take adjustments so as not to trigger termination of employment (PHK).
“We are working on this. Many times the Minister of Industry appealed to us to avoid termination of employment,” said Gaikindo Chairperson Yohannes Nangoi, when met after the closing of GIIAS 2025, Saturday (2/8).
“Although we suffer a little with this declining sales,” continued Nangoi.
In dealing with these conditions, Gaikindo took a short -term survival strategy without touching permanent labor.
“We are trying, what we do is we do not add contract employees. While we stop it first, we survive,” he said.
Nangoi’s statement was in line with a strong appeal from the Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita.When opening the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2025 on Thursday (24/7), Agus said the current condition was a transition phase that would not last long.
“This is what I said from the beginning, we see this as a transition period and we are very optimistic that this is only a ride passing by, only briefly,” Agus said.
“That the Indonesian economy will soon recover, the market will soon be seen, and when the momentum comes, we hope that the automotive industry is ready to fly high. With a stronger progress, efficient and certainly high competitiveness,” he continued.
Agus explicitly conveyed to industry players from refraining not doing layoffs during this recovery period.
“This is the order this time sir, and I have also conveyed to the automotive industry players when I met, that there should be no layoffs, there should be no layoffs. This is an order from the government,” said Agus.
