Hyundai E&C defeated Korea Expressway Corporation 3-1 (25-22 25-17 15-25 25-19) in straight sets at the 2023 Gumi Dodram Cup Professional Volleyball Tournament (Cup) at Park Jung-hee Gymnasium in Gumi, Gyeongbuk, on February 2.
Hyundai E&C, which has already punched its ticket to the semifinals, topped Group A and will play the runner-up in Group B on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. for a ticket to the final.
On the other hand, Korea Expressway Corporation, which won last season’s championship after losing two games in the championship match to achieve the mythical “reverse sweep” of three consecutive wins, was eliminated after losing to Insam Corporation and Hyundai E&C in straight sets.
On the day, Hyundai E&C outgunned Korea Expressway Corporation in terms of firepower as all players who stepped on the court contributed to the scoring. Hwang Yeon-ju, Na Hyun-soo, Lee Da-hyun, and Jeong Ji-yoon each scored 11 points, while Kim Joo-hyang added 10 points.
After losing the third set, Hyundai E&C brought in Yang Hyo-jin, who had only one set off, for the fourth set to stem the tide.
The road construction company took solace in the fact that they had won a set against Hyundai E&C, which had gone without a set.
