For those who don’t understand, distinguishing between fake and original spark plugs is difficult because they both have very similar shapes. However, this can be overcome if we know the tricks and are more observant in distinguishing them.
NGK Ammar Singh Gill’s legal team revealed that the easiest way to differentiate between fake and genuine spark plugs is in the packaging. For NGK products, the outer packaging has now changed so much that they also include the company name, namely Niterra.

“However, whether these fake products are old or old stock or they are not updated, you can see that the fake goods still say NGK, the spark plug brand is NGK, but the company name is Niterra,” said Ammar at the NGK office, Ciracas, East Jakarta, Tuesday (16/12).

Then, the quality of the printing on the packaging is also clearly visible between fake and genuine goods.
“The original and fake packaging is definitely different, the quality of the colors including the letters is different,” he said.
Meanwhile, Diko Oktaviano, Aftermarket Technical Support for Niterra (NGK) said that users can also differentiate through the packaging on the inside. On this side, there will be a QR code that can be scanned to verify the authenticity of the product.
Then physically, we can also see the difference in the spark plug body for locking, because the original one has a code. Then the markings are more firmly written on the ceramic material, while fake goods are often faintly visible or not there at all.
Diko also said that the original gasket or locking ring for the spark plug is made of strong material so it doesn’t come off easily, in contrast to the fake one. The original spark plug also has a color plating that is not too bright, different from the fake spark plug.
Circulation of fake buses in Jabodetabek
NGK spark plug manufacturer, Niterra Mobility Indonesia, has revealed the circulation of fake spark plugs in society. This practice is considered to not only damage the company’s image, but also cause financial losses projected to reach IDR 2 billion just through distribution via online stores.
Based on these findings, the company, together with a team of lawyers and the police, has developed a case that resulted in the confiscation of 11 thousand counterfeit spark plugs from their brand from physical stores.Tens of thousands of spark plugs were then destroyed.
This is a form of the company’s commitment to fighting the circulation of fake spark plugs which are increasingly common in the market, especially in Jabodetabek.
Ammar continued that the method of fake spark plug dealers is to give much cheaper selling prices for the best-selling products. For example, the best-selling NGK motorbike spark plugs are currently priced at IDR 20 thousand, but fake spark plugs can be sold starting from IDR 7 thousand.
