Many people believe that the weakening economic conditions in the country will not have a broad impact on upper class society. However, this is not in line with sales results
luxury car
which fell out this year.
Premium car sales have fallen much deeper than the decline in the total vehicle market in Indonesia during the 10 months of 2025. One of the main players, Lexus, agrees with this.
According to Ima Nurbani Rahmah, General Manager of Lexus Indonesia, the premium car market this year is quite challenging.

“If I think so
luxury market
it’s more durable that way.But apparently this year until October, that is
luxury market
fell deeper than the total
markets
,” said Ima when met at ICE BSD Tangerang, recently.
“So if maybe the market drops 10 percent,
luxury market
down 30-40 percent,” added Ima.

Based on data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), retail records in January-October 2025 fell 9.6 percent to 660,659 units compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, Lexus, whose market is below Denza and BMW, experienced a 44.3 percent decline in sales for the same period to 1,335 units.
It could be said that almost half of Lexus sales will be eroded in the first 10 months of 2025.
According to Ima, the luxury car market has been eroded due to the uncertain global economic situation. This condition has a direct impact on business people, which he said is the background for consumers buying Lexus cars in the country.
Under certain conditions, Ima said it is not impossible for business people to think twice before making an investment, including when buying a luxury vehicle.
“So
business owner
that’s the first thing to hold on to.Maybe he doesn’t exist after all
cash
Yes.Just them
business owner
so
wait and see
,
buying assets
and so on,” he said.
He cannot yet predict when car sales in Indonesia will improve, but hopes as soon as possible.
Eroded by Denza?
More than that, Ima does not use the presence of a new premium brand from China which is a sub brand of BYD, namely Denza, as the reason for the Lexus market falling at this time.
Ima emphasized that the decline in Lexus sales was not the result of the appearance of Denza.Ima believes that consumer loyalty is not easily shaken by the temptation of other premium brands.
Ima said Lexus consumers in Indonesia have different characters when buying vehicles. He said consumers not only need units, but also special experiences and services that they can only get when buying a Lexus.
This is one of the reasons why Lexus users rarely move elsewhere.
“We saw
customers
we still haven’t
consider
.Because yes, our consumers always think, what they get is what they look for
experience
.”So they don’t change their hearts easily,” said Ima.
Denza, which until now only sells one luxury MPV model called the D9, has risen to the top position of the best-selling premium car brand in the country, beating BMW, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz.
Denza collected D9 retail sales of 6,757 units, far above Lexus after selling 1,335 units for the January-October 2025 period.
The D9 is the Lexus LM350’s main rival in the premium MPV class. The difference is, the D9 is a battery-based electric car, while the LM350 is only available in a hybrid variant.
Regarding sales, the LM350 is clearly losing badly because until October 2025 it will only sell 895 units wholesale.
“Because earlier, he was looking for not just cars, not just MPVs. But yes, MPVs can be given
experience
different,
services
different, personalization.Because earlier,
privileges
that they wouldn’t get, if they weren’t in Lexus. That’s the situation,” he said again.
