European Union
has stipulated that by 2023 all new cars sold in the region in 2035 must be electric cars. However, now the doomsday plan for petrol and diesel cars is facing resistance from six countries which is likely to result in it being postponed.
Reuters
reported last week that six countries, namely Italy, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Slovakia, signed a letter requesting the European Union Commission to review the ban on the sale of internal combustion engine (ICE) cars in 2035.

They asked that sales of hybrid cars or other future technologies that ‘contribute to reducing emissions’ after 2035 remain permitted.
The European Union is actually also reviewing the ban.Currently a draft proposal for new automotive regulations has been prepared which will ease the 2035 ban. The draft was initially said to be released on December 10, but has now been postponed to December 16.

When the ban on ICE cars in 2035 was set for 2023, the situation at that time for electric cars was very positive. But now car manufacturers in Europe are facing fierce resistance from Chinese manufacturers who are able to sell electric cars at low prices.
The postponement or easing of the ban on ICE cars to 2035 is also being pushed by European automotive manufacturers who are asking the European Union to allow the sale of hybrid and ICE cars that can use CO2 neutral fuels such as those made from vegetables or waste.
However, it is predicted that postponing the petrol car apocalypse to 2035 will hamper the European Union’s climate targets. Some European Union officials have suggested the new automotive proposal be postponed until 2026.
