Crucial Step for Indomobil to Collaborate with Chinese Brands to Enter Indonesia

Changan
Automobile has previously collaborated with three other Chinese brands, namely GAC Aion, GWM, Maxus and Hongqi will follow in the near future.
The ceremony for the start of Changan’s business with Indomobil in the country was just held on Wednesday (19/11).Changan will enter the battery-based electric passenger car segment.
“For EVs (electric vehicles) currently the strongest is China (brand), there are no others,” said Jusak Kertowidjojo, President Director of Indomobil Sukses Internasional Tbk (IMAS) on the day of the Changan ceremony.

Jusak said that the massive increase in Chinese brands in a short time does not necessarily make Indomobil abandon the Japanese brands that have existed for a long time.

According to him, this is a transition period, where Japanese manufacturers have not been able to move fast enough to compete in the electric vehicle segment.This is also the company’s way of surviving in each vehicle segment.
He acknowledged that the foundation of Japanese manufacturers for conventional vehicles is very strong.
“This Japanese brand is strong in ICE and cannot (can) immediately replace all EVs. And if we don’t get into EVs we will certainly be left behind,” said Jusak.
Jusak said Indomobil chose Changan as the new Chinese brand for the Indonesian market not without reason.This brand owned by the Chinese government is said to have capabilities and a long history that should be taken into account to compete in the Indonesian automotive industry.
The Indomobil Group now oversees many brands, namely Nissan and Suzuki from Japan, Volvo, Volkswagen, Jaguar, Land Rover, Citroen, Mercedes-Benz from Europe and Jeep from the United States.
They also have Indomobil eMotor, Harley-Davidson, and Suzuki for two-wheeled vehicles.Then for commercial vehicles there are Volvo, Hino, Renault Truck and JAC Motors.
