The Cleveland Cavaliers are a fitting sacrifice for Ryu’s first win.
Toronto Blue Jays’ Hyun-jin Ryu will start the 2023 Major League Baseball game against the Cleveland Indians at 8:10 a.m. ET at Progressive Field in Cleveland,메이저놀이터 Ohio.
Ryu has been rehabbing for more than a year after undergoing Tommy John surgery (elbow ligament reconstruction) on June 2, 2022, against the Chicago White Sox.
He made his comeback on June 2 against the Baltimore Orioles at home at Rogers Centre. Ryu held the Orioles to three runs through five innings, but gave up a home run to the leadoff hitter in the top of the sixth. He took the loss in five innings and four runs. Some critics questioned why Ryu was brought in for the sixth inning.
The second game was against Cleveland. If Baltimore was the top dog in the American League East, Cleveland was the underdog. Combine that with the fact that they are a weaker opponent than Baltimore, and the fact that Ryu will be getting more comfortable in the field, and you can expect a strong performance.
Cleveland is second in the American League Central with a 54-58 record and a .482 winning percentage. Despite being second in the division, they are only 11th in the American League in winning percentage. They are 3-7 in their last 10 games and have lost two straight. They are a whopping 8.5 games back of Toronto for the second wild card spot.

Cleveland has a low team OPS (on-base percentage plus slugging percentage) of 0.696, which is a good indicator of offense (25th in the majors). The team OPS against lefties is 0.663, 30th out of 30 clubs in the majors.
Ryu also boasts a 100 percent career win rate against Cleveland, going 2-0 with a 2.84 ERA in three games and 19 innings pitched. He’s also no stranger to Progressive Field, having pitched five innings of two-run ball in one game there.
The Cleveland starter the Toronto offense will face is rookie Gavin Williams. This is their first meeting. In eight starts, Williams has been relatively solid, going 1-3 with a 3.38 ERA.
At home, however, Williams has been more unsettling with a 4.21 ERA in five games and 25⅔ innings pitched. If Ryu can hold him to two runs or less for at least five innings, he should be fine.
