Chery Sales Indonesia (
CSI
) acknowledged the value of some Chinese brand electric cars plummeted on the used car market in a short period of time.However, manufacturers do not remain silent and are preparing various strategies for improvement because the prestige of used cars is also related to brand development.
Head of Brand CSI Rifki Setiawan explained that depreciation depends on demand and supply.Meanwhile, the issues that have emerged recently regarding Chinese electric cars in the used car market are said to be about batteries.
“A lot of the issues related to electric cars are batteries, batteries are expensive and so on, which really affects their buying and selling strength in the market,” he said.

Depreciation that is too heavy could be considered detrimental for the first owner, but Rifki said there are things you should pay attention to, namely the cost of ownership.

He said the savings in the cost of owning a Chinese electric car over five years is equivalent to depreciation in the same period.He said the ownership costs were calculated from annual tax payments, maintenance, daily use and so on.

However, Rifki admits that the main difference is in terms of the battery, which he says is the main obstacle.Over time, the battery’s battery life decreases and buying a new one can cost hundreds of millions of rupiah.
CSI, like other Chinese brands, provides a battery guarantee for electrified models such as the Tiggo 8 CSH and J6, namely for 8 years or 160,000 km.Apart from that, consumers also get a vehicle guarantee for 6 years or 150,000 km.
However, Rifki explained that the battery guarantee is only for the first hand, not transferred to the new owner.
Buying a used electric car means you will only use the remaining battery from the first owner, which raises concerns about having to spend hundreds of millions of rupiah to replace it.
“The only thing that will answer in the future is whether this will survive or not will be investors from the battery side, which is the main obstacle, right? This means that if in the future there are investors in batteries that can be used for several brands, meaning third parties, yes, they can make

He said that there were already several parties, especially from China, who wanted to become investors in Indonesia but their current position was still waiting for the government’s policy direction.
While waiting for that, Rifki said that Chery will also focus on developing added brand value (brand equity), which is acknowledged to come from a good impression in the used car market.
One thing that will be carried out intensively next year is the development of the dealer network.The number of dealers will be increased to more than 80 targeted this year.
