BYD M9 plug-in hybrid 2026 model with various updates launched in China.The M9 is sold starting at 196,800 yuan (US$27.5 thousand) or around IDR 459 million for a limited period.
According to the company, the new model brings improvements in battery capacity, fuel efficiency, as well as more advanced driver assistance systems.
As an MPV model, the M9 still has a seven-seat configuration and is categorized as a medium-large MPV with BYD’s fifth generation DM plug-in hybrid system.

Four variants are now available (from five previously), while two variants offer a pure electric range of 100 km, while the long-range version has increased from 180 km to 218 km.

The BYD M9 uses a larger Blade battery, which is claimed to reduce fuel consumption in hybrid mode to 4.9-5.0 liters/100 km, a reduction of 0.4 liters compared to the previous model. When combined with electric power, the total distance can reach 1,163 km.
Design-wise, the M9 retains the large “dragon-scale” style grille and elongated bar headlights with chrome accents.The highest variant gets an additional lidar unit on the roof.The body side is equipped with double electric sliding doors, optional projection sensors, Bluetooth and NFC locks, and privacy glass at the rear.
The car still maintains the dimensions of 5,145 mm in length, 1,970 mm in width, 1,805 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 3,045 mm.
Entering the interior, it now comes in Sandalwood Brown Beige and Far Mountain Gray color choices, equipped with 128 color ambient lighting, an aromatherapy system, and a PM2.5 air filter (optional).
Then the 15.6-inch center screen is powered by the DiLink 150 system, supporting DeepSeek AI voice commands, sentinel mode, karaoke without a microphone, and cross-brand cellphone connectivity.
There is also a 12.3-inch instrument screen, 26-inch W-HUD (on the highest variant), as well as an optional 12.3-inch passenger entertainment screen.
50W wireless charging is standard and the DiSound Dolby Atmos audio system comes in a choice of 12 or 24 speakers, with the option of 28 speakers plus a portable outdoor speaker.
The highest variant features the God’s Eye B system, which includes lidar as well as more advanced city navigation and autonomous parking features.The middle variant uses God’s Eye C, to support driving assistance on highways.
The cabin remains in the 2+2+3 format.Both front seats are equipped with heating, ventilation, position memory and massage.The second row captain’s chairs have footrests, folding tables, ventilation and integrated audio in the headrests.
The third row can be folded electrically and the backrest angle can be adjusted.Trunk capacity reaches 470 liters, and can be expanded to 2,036 liters.
For higher variants, a cooling box, two-piece panoramic sunroof, 15.6-inch rear entertainment screen and multi-zone air conditioning are available.
The 1.5T plug-in hybrid system used by the M9 produces 115 kW of power from the petrol engine and 200 kW from the electric motor, while the claimed acceleration is 0-100 km/h in 8.1-8.5 seconds.
The M9 is also equipped with DiSus-C intelligent adaptive suspension with predictive road scanning to increase stability and reduce shaking.
For normal prices without trade-in incentives, the new M9 is priced from 206,800 yuan (US$29 thousand) around IDR 484 million to 269,800 yuan (US$37.8 thousand) or around IDR 631 million.
In September 2025, BYD recorded sales of 1,467 M9 units, ranking it 15th in the large MPV segment in China.
