BMW
Group Indonesia explained that it would not be too affected by the Indonesia-EU Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) which will take effect from January 1 2027. This trade agreement between Indonesia and the European Union was promised to facilitate vehicle imports, however the majority of BMW cars in the country are produced locally.
President Director of BMW Group Indonesia, Peter Medalla, or better known as Sunny, said that BMW’s investment in Indonesia had been built for a long time and had produced car assembly facilities.

“We are not so affected because we, BMW Group Indonesia, have been investing for almost 25 years, right next year, in fact, (also has been established) a
assembly plant
in Indonesia,” explained Sunny in Jakarta, Wednesday (3/12).
“So (BMW) Series 2, 3, 5, 7, X1, X3, X5, X7, all assembled here,” he added.

Import duty free
One of the agreements from IEU-CEPA is the elimination of tariff and non-tariff trade barriers, including import duties for vehicles from Europe to zero percent.
If only IEU-CEPA would be profitable, it wouldn’t come into effect until 2027. Sunny doesn’t seem to want to wait that long, he said the right time to buy a BMW car is now.
“So the tax incentives that we are currently implementing (…) (cover) almost 90 percent of the cars that we plan to sell in Indonesia,” he said.
“In this case, we already enjoy the preferential rates. So, if you ask me, when is the best time to buy? Now. Now is the best time to buy a BMW,” said Sunny.
Regarding IEU-CEPA which will officially come into effect in 2027, BMW Group Indonesia has chosen to wait for the official details of this agreement, regarding vehicle component prices that have an impact on the tax policies that will apply.
“We still haven’t seen the final details of this policy. And this is only part of the price of the vehicle. We haven’t even talked about the tax. It may be applied or it may be reduced, as a result. So, we are waiting for the details,” explained Sunny.
Currently, BMW’s strategy is to focus on equipping models with the highest demand for Indonesian consumers who are selective in what they want.
“Furthermore, we will continue to bring the most competitive and highest-demand vehicles. Be it SUVs or sedans for Indonesian customers who have high tastes,” he concluded.
