Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia is optimistic that Indonesia will become a pioneer in the development of a battery ecosystem

integrated from upstream to downstream.
In addition, the government also targets the construction of solar power plants (PLTS) with a capacity of 100 GW for the needs of large markets for the domestic battery industry.
“Huayou will soon walk with Antam and IBC. The total investment is around 8 billion USD. Well, if this is all, we are targeting 2027 late, this has all been made. Then Indonesia will become one of the first countries to build an integrated car battery ecosystem from upstream to downstream,” Bahlil said in Jakarta, quoting his written statement on Thursday (7/8).
He explained this in line with the government’s program in heading to Net Zero Emission (NZE) in 2060, including running the direction of President Prabowo Subianto for downstreaming and accelerating the development of the electric car industry.
Not only that, the use of new and renewable energy (EBT) for electricity is also a priority that will open up opportunities for the domestic battery industry.
“And we ask for batteries for electricity all must use Indonesian products. This is a big market. And this will encourage how the availability of electricity for the Red and White Cooperative. Because we will use an electric track. We will use an electric motor. And this is at the same time to encourage the transition of energy and energy sovereignty,” he said.
With the battery ecosystem for electric vehicles, Indonesia can be the main goal of efficient investment, because raw materials to the ecosystem are already available.
“There is no reason, in my opinion, not to make efficient investment in the country of Indonesia. The market is there, the raw material is there, the ecosystem already exists, the new renewable energy is already there,” Bahlil said.
Regarding downstreaming the government’s program, Bahlil added downstreaming will be a targeted economic growth of 8 percent in 2029.
Downstreaming will also encourage job creation, which leads to equitable economic area, and increase state revenue.
