Incentives for the automotive sector
What a number of vehicle companies and the public have been waiting for will certainly not be available next year.
This was conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, while also denying the statement by the Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang.
“There will be no (automotive) incentives next year,” said Airlangga when met at Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week (GJAW) ICE BSD, Wednesday (26/11).

Airlangga argued that the domestic automotive industry is already quite strong, especially now that sales are supported by many national and international automotive exhibitions. On this basis, automotive sales do not feel the need to receive government fiscal policy support through incentives.

“Because the industry is already quite strong. Moreover, it has exhibited here. Very strong,” said Airlangga.
However, he did not deny that the government is currently reviewing incentives for automotive products, but so far there has been no decision.
“It is still being studied (the plan to provide automotive incentives). It is being studied, but not yet (there has been a decision),” he said.
Previously, many manufacturers urged the government to provide assistance for purchasing motorized vehicles through incentives, so that sales of automotive products would increase. This pressure responds to the current condition of the motor vehicle market in Indonesia.
On the one hand, Agus Gumiwang still believes that the government is preparing automotive incentives and has the potential to take effect next year.
“Yes, we are currently preparing it, and in my opinion automotive incentives are a necessity, because the sector is very important, very, very important. SBIN (New National Industrialization Strategy) is a strategy where we look at the backward and forward linkage of every manufacturing activity,” said Agus at GJAW 2025.
“So the government should also prepare incentives for the automotive sector in 2026. Don’t ask about the type of incentive, we are currently preparing the form of incentive,” he added.
