As a result, there is a trend of increasing potential for community movement nationally during the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year Transport (Nataru 2025/2026) by 2.71 percent, from 39.30 percent last year to 42.01 percent.
Dudy explained that the increase in people’s interest in traveling this year was due to several factors, such as the long holiday period, where school holidays coincide with the 2025/2026 Christmas holidays, as well as the improving condition of transportation infrastructure.

The next factor is the high interest of people in traveling, the cultural aspect, especially for people who want to celebrate Christmas in their hometown, as well as the economic aspect.
Regarding the choice of transportation mode, Dudy said that the use of private cars was the largest according to the survey results, the figure reached 42.78 percent or 51.12 million people.
The next largest mode is motorbikes 18.41 percent or 22.00 million people, buses 8.17 percent or 9.76 million people, rental cars 7.43 percent or 8.87 million people, travel cars 6.39 percent or 7.64 million people.
Other modes include airplanes 3.57 percent or 4.27 million people, long-distance trains 3.29 percent or 3.94 million people, ferryboats 3.14 percent or 3.75 million people, ships 2.20 percent or 2.62 million people, and commuter lines 1.93 percent or 2.30 million people.
“The high public interest in using private vehicles indicates the need for more intensive traffic management, especially on toll roads and access to transportation nodes,” said Dudy in his statement, quoted on Tuesday (9/12).
Dudy estimates that the peak flow of homecoming during the Christmas holiday will occur on Wednesday, December 24 2025, with an estimated number of movements at once of 17.18 million people.
“We predict that the peak return flow during the 2025/2026 Christmas holiday will occur on Wednesday, December 24 2025 with an estimated movement of 17.18 million people, while the peak return flow is predicted to occur Friday, January 2 2026 with an estimated movement of 20.81 million people,” said Dudy.
